Personal Dental Insurance

Ask anyone who is paid full price for dental work and they will tell you it is not something that you want to do. Dental insurance has become increasingly important over the years. When it comes to your teeth and gums, studies have shown that people encounter more and more dental problems as they get older. Although many individuals are provided with dental care by their employers, not everyone is lucky enough to be afforded this option. Furthermore, it is often difficult to find a good dental plan as an individual. If you are not covered by your employer or another group, we can make this tedious task easier for you by advising you on your options and preparing quotation comparisons. Meslee Insurance works with a number of dental insurance companies and dental plan providers to ensure that we are always securing our clients the best dental care at the most affordable price. Ultimately, most of us don’t have perfect teeth and it is likely that surgery or an operation will eventually be needed. Even if this is not the case, the cost of biannual clean ups can be quite high. Save yourself the trouble of dealing with a sudden and expensive bill by securing a good dental plan. Dental Plans vs. Dental Insurance

A Dental Plan is basically an agreement between the insured and the dental insurance or dental plan company. In exchange for monthly or annual premium payments, the insurance company provides you with a list of dentists that you can visit and obtain care from for a discounted rate. With Dental Insurance, rather than obtaining a discounted rate for dental care, the insurance company becomes responsible for paying your expenses. As a result, Dental Insurance companies often take measures to safeguard against abuse by qualifying applicants based on applications and forms, including deductibles, adding waiting periods and setting policy maximums. They may also include exclusions such as a “Missing Tooth Clause”, which protects the insurance company from paying you for the replacement of a tooth that was missing prior to the policy being in effect. The claims process is also different. With a dental plan, you simply show the doctor your card and pay a reduced rate while the doctor handles all of the paperwork by contacting your plan provider. On the contrary, you may have fill out lengthy forms with dental insurance and wait for reimbursement.

Typical Coverages found in a basic dental insurance policy or dental plan

Coverage can often differ based on the policy, plan and provider you choose to go with. Having said this, there are three general coverages that you will find in a basic dental insurance policy or dental plan.

  1. Preventive and diagnostic dental care: This coverage provides cover for basic dental costs that are meant to prevent future dental problems. These services may include checkups, cleaning and other dental procedures meant to prevent tooth and gum disease. This is a driving point with dental care providers because it helps prevent future issues and helps keep your teeth and gums healthy

  2. Basic Dental care and dental procedures: This coverage is included in most long term dental care plans and policies. It may cover procedures such as fillings, tooth extractions, fixing chipped teeth and other basic procedures. When choosing a dental care plan or policy, this section is something to be particularly aware of because what is considered “basic dental care” may vary from provider to provider. For example, some providers may consider a root canal basic while others may not.

  3. Major Dental Care: Major dental care refers to procedures such as orthodontics, denture work, dental surgery and other large and expensive procedures. Although not all dental insurance plans and policies cover major dental care, some do offer coverage for at least a portion of the cost.
